As surprisingly swiftly as it closed comes the news this afternoon that popular Truro nightclub Vanilla is to reopen ... tonight.

The two-storey 300-capacity venue in Duke Street closed its door suddenly almost exactly a month to consternation from regulars.

The club was run for ten years by Graeme Scrimgeor, who hasn't made a comment since the shock closure.

Writing on Facebook, Nigel Pacey reflected many people's views: “Another good place bites the dust. That means there is nowhere good enough in Truro anymore and hasn't been for some time. RIP Truro night life!”

However, all is not lost. A post on the bar / club's Facebook page came out of nowhere at around 2.30pm on Friday, stating: "Vanilla. Back again. Friday 14th December. New prices. New DJs. New experience."

Cornwall Live ran a story in late November stating that Pete Masters, the boss of Truro City Football Club, was "considering" purchasing Vanilla.

He said: "It's definitely something we're looking at."

Mr Masters added: “When somewhere like this closes you see a lot of interested people rushing in. We have to stand back and have a look if the deal’s right, then we could do it."

“It will be a shame if it’s closed for good. The Truro scene is not at its best and it relies on places like Vanilla to keep it going, especially with the Hall For Cornwall being closed.”

Now Mr Masters has verified the club will be run by his son Jason, who also manages the popular sports and live music bar, Bunters, in Kenwyn Street in Truro.

Jason told us: "I was interested when I heard it had closed as it was a well-established club. We're opening on Fridays and Saturdays in time for Christmas and are making improvements to the lighting and sound system."

The downstairs bar will reopen in January as an American sports-themed bar and will be open nightly.

Jason said he was was expecting a very busy reopening tonight.
