A vigil and march supporting a campaign to end violence against women and girls is being held in Truro.

The Women’s Centre Cornwall is hosting a Reclaim the Night march and candlelit vigil on Saturday, December 1.

It forms part of the global campaign 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women.

The vigil will take place at Truro Cathedral at 5pm, followed by a march through the city at 6pm.

The vigil will honour and remember more than 100 women who were killed in the UK in 2018 by men or where a man was the principal suspect.

A spokesperson for the event said: “In the climate of #MeToo, #TimesUp and #HearMeToo, Reclaim the Night is as relevant as ever.

“Violence against women and girls continues to occur every minute of every day, but women everywhere are beginning to take a stand for change.

“The march and vigil are intended to bring people together to pause, reflect and unite with others across the world to end violence against women and girls.

“We will join millions across the globe who will be marking the ‘16 Days of Activism’ – a call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women, starting on 25 November, International Day for the elimination of violence against women and ending on 10 December, Human Rights Day,with demonstrations and marches.”
