Blooming Grove’s Lions are off to the best start in the Golden Circle and kept rolling over the weekend in the Centerville Tournament, where they went 4-1 and took home third place.

Blooming Grove beat Normangee 69-64 in the third place game. Andrew Roberts and Stephen Carroll scored 16 points each to lead the Lions and John Shaw followed with right points.

BG opened the tournament with an 85-43 win over North Gulch. Shaw led the way with 21 points and Roberts followed with 19. Josh Glasco and Carroll scored eight each. Dakota Lewis and Ethan Nors scored seven points each.

The Lions took care of the host team, Centerville, in their second game, running by the Tigers 59-27 with their best defensive performance of the weekend.

Roberts had a huge game, scoring 26 points and Houston Rodgers and Glasco followed with nine and six points.

BG beat Piney Woods 68-42 as Glasco led the Lions with 21 points. Nors scored 14 and Carroll went inside for 11. Shaw finished with nine points.

That victory sent the Lions to the semifinals, where they lost a tough game to Lovelady in a 92-82 shootout.

Roberts burned down the nest, scoring 35 points to lead BG. Nors scored 13 points and Shaw scored eight.

They bounced back with the victory in the third place game to go 4-1 in the tournament. The Lions are 10-2 for the season and play at Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and then will be at home Friday at 7:30 p.m. to face Hubbard.
