A Welsh book club is launching today to celebrate 'Shwmae Su'mae Day', which aims to get people speaking Welsh in Montgomeryshire.

The launch of Clwb Darllen Difyr celebrates the annual national campaign which tries to get people to swap 'hello' for 'shwmae' or 'su'mae'.

The event in Newtown Library at 2pm aims to show that the Welsh language belongs to fluent speakers, learners or those shy about their Welsh.

Author and Welsh tutor Zoe Pettinger will help launch the event this afternoon. She learnt Welsh after moving to Aberystwyth from the south coast of England and has since written books for learners as part of the Amdani series.

Zoe has also written a collection of stories called Croesi'r Bont (Crossing the Bridge) about her journey from a learner to a Welsh for Adults tutor.

Nia Llywelyn from Menter Maldwyn says today is an opportunity to have fun and share the Welsh language.

"This new experiment in Montgomeryshire aims to get more people interested in reading Welsh as well as supporting each other in the process of learning Welsh”
