An East Hampton man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Haddam on Saturday evening.

State police said that 24-year-old Raymond Kuritz was driving a motorcycle southbound on Route 154, Old Saybrook Road, in Haddam at about 8 p.m. Saturday. As Kuritz went around a “sweeping left turn,” he lost control of the motorcycle and went off the road near the intersection with Field Park Drive.

As Kuritz exited the road, his motorcycle struck a utility pole, police said. The impact ejected Kuritz from the motorcycle and he struck a mailbox and a second utility pole.

First responders attempted to save Kuritz, but he was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Kuritz was not wearing a helmet and police believe that speed was a factor in the crash.

The incident is still under investigation and police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who has relevant information to contact Haddam Resident State Trooper Joseph DeAngelo at 860-399-2100.
