One student was hurt and a school was locked down after a fight Thursday, said East Hartford Superintendent Nathan Quesnel.

A female student at Synergy Alternative High School suffered a cut on her forehead during a fight with a male student and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, Quesnel said. The fight happened early in the afternoon in a classroom and prompted a brief lockdown at the Butternut Drive school, he said.

He called the incident “unfortunate and scary,” and said school officials will decide on discipline. Police also were called, but information on whether any charges were filed was not immediately available.
