Officials identified the body pulled from the Connecticut River in Glastonbury Wednesday as a Hartford man who disappeared into the water after jumping from a boat last weekend to go for a swim.

Ivan De Jesus Morales Mencia, 39, went into the river Saturday in Hartford — where the currents are strong — after getting out of a 19-foot 2013 Yamaha AR 192 jet boat, officials from the state’s environmental agency said. Those on the boat tried to rescue him, but were unsuccessful.

DEEP crews searched through the weekend for Mencia, but could not find him.

An autopsy was inconclusive as to the precise cause of death, a spokeswoman from the state medical examiner’s office said Friday. The cause and manner of death are pending further study.

Friends of the victim were the first to spot his body in the river in Glastonbury early Wednesday and contact authorities, officials said.

New Canaan police announced in an email Wednesday afternoon the body was not connected to the disappearance last month of Farber Dulos, for whom police are still searching across the state.

The body was spotted in the water about 7:15 a.m., said Lee Sawyer, spokesman for the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection. Glastonbury police and firefighters helped members of DEEP’s police force with the recovery.
