An ongoing disagreement led to a stabbing in Hartford Tuesday night during which two people were injured and three were arrested, police said.

The victim remains in the hospital after being stabbed in the stomach but is expected to recover, Lt. Paul Cicero said Wednesday.

A second person sustained less serious injuries during the fight, which Cicero said involved “mutual combatants.”

“This appears to be an ongoing dispute between the three of them,” he said.

According to police, the stabbing happened at a gas station on Maple Avenue.

Detectives and officers spotted a suspect a block away and chased the man down Whitmore Street before detaining him just before 6:30 p.m., Cicero said.

The suspect was “observed to have injuries of his own,” so both the victim and suspect were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, he said.

Officers remained on the scene investigating at 7 p.m.

The names of the people who were arrested were not available Wednesday morning.
