Still healing from being shot in Hartford, Vernon police took a New Britain man into custody Monday for a local home invasion.

Vernon police had a warrant for Abner Orlando Ortiz, 23, when he was confronted by police called to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center after Ortiz arrived with a gunshot wound Monday night, officials said.

Ortiz was shot in the upper arm while on Wethersfield Avenue that night, officers learned.

After he was released from the hospital, a Hartford police officer took Ortiz to Vernon Police Department to face charges, police said.

Police made other arrests in the home invasion and Ortiz was the last suspect to get taken into custody.

He was held on $50,000 bail before making a brief appearance Tuesday in Superior Court in Rockville.
