A 31-year-old Bridgeport man was charged Tuesday with home invasion and strangulation in connection with an attack on a Shelton woman last month.

Owen Mason of Jewett Street in Bridgeport was arrested by the Shelton police and charged with home invasion, criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree strangulation and risk of injury to a child. Mason was arrested at the Derby Superior Court, where he was appearing on a separate charge. He is being held on a $275,000 bond.

The arrest stems from an incident in a Howe Ave apartment during the early morning hours of Nov. 14. A 31-year-old woman called the police to say Mason had choked her during an argument, police said.

Mason fled the apartment before officers arrived, and they could not find him.

Police said Mason returned to the apartment several hours later, broke in, pulled out a handgun and threatened to kill the woman. Her 4-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son were home at the time of the incident, police said.

Once again Mason fled the scene before police arrived, and officers canvassed the area for rest of the night and into the following day but were unable to locate Mason. As a result of the investigation, he was arrested after he was brought to court on the other charge.
