Library Director Retiring

BLOOMFIELD — Prosser Public Library, 1 Tunxis Ave., is honoring Library Director Roberta La Monaca, as she is retiring. Come celebrate with her and wish her well in her new adventures to come. Call 860-243-9721, ext. 3558, for more information.

A retirement open house celebrating La Monaca’s 40 years of service to Bloomfield libraries will take place on Thursday, July 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. Those who wish to make a contribution to Roberta’s gift may send a check payable to Chris Siloac at the library.

A buffet dinner celebrating La Monaca’s service will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Wintonbury Hills Golf Club, 206 Terry Plains Road. Cost is $33 per person and reservations must be made by July 19. Checks may be made payable to Prosser Public Library.

Monday Morning Book Club

WINDSOR — The Monday Morning Book Club will discuss Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult on Monday, July 22, at Windsor Public Library, 323 Broad St. Discussions are held at the Main Library on the fourth Monday of every month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., downstairs in Meeting Room 2. Star Trek II

WINDSOR — The Windsor Public Library, 323 Broad St., will feature Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in the summer movie series on Tuesday, July 23. This series will run every Tuesday evening from now through Aug. 27. The film runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend. Call 860-285-1918 for more information.

Gardening Advice

WINDSOR — Bring your kitchen garden problems or just your curiosity to a gardening talk at Northwest Park, 145 Lang Road. Free tips, diagnoses and recommendations from the UConn Extension Master Gardeners will be shared. Now in the third year as a signature project of the Hartford and Tolland County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, they provide self-guided learning about growing herbs and vegetables, as well as monthly workshops and casual conversation on site.

The program will take place on Tuesday, July 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. This second event of the summer will focus on mid-season garden challenges from insects and diseases, along with “how-to” information from the master composter. The gardeners use organic methods, including the principles of Integrated Pest Management, which involves preventive measures as well as multiple forms of solutions.

Light seasonal refreshments will be served. There is no rain date, but heavy rain or storms will cancel. The next event will be Aug. 2

The organic garden is found a short distance down the dirt road that passes between the Animal Barn and the large animal pastures. Look for signs. Email Nancy at nrbowden@comcast.net for more information.

Windsor Art Center Events

Mini Artist Talks: Saturday, July 20, from 2 to 3 p.m. Artists Among Us. Free. Hear artists in the community talk about their works, process, subject matter, and more. Invited WAC members Katherine Tolve, Andre Rochester, Lenny Hellerman, and Lucy Sander Sceery will speak, followed by questions and conversation. Light refreshments will be available.

WACky Comedy Night: Thursday July 25, at 7 p.m. Free. Visit the art center for a night of laughs with a group of comedians whose humor is as eclectic as the current exhibit. Enjoy light refreshments.

Spaceballs Screening

WINDSOR — The Windsor Public Library, 323 Broad St., will show Spaceballs during its summer movie series on Tuesday, July 30. This series will run every Tuesday evening from now through Aug. 27. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

WINDSOR — Windsor Social Services is on the lookout for grandparents raising grandchildren. Are you a grandparent or other relative raising a second family? They would like to hear from you and see if they can help with some of the issues associated with the challenges of raising grandchildren. First Town Downtown Concerts

WINDSOR — First Town Downtown presents two additional concerts: A Saturday concert on July 27 at 6 p.m. with Tangowood, a group made up of musicians from the internationally acclaimed Tonebank Int’l Music Academy (with a rain date of Sunday) and Personal Touch playing Motown hits on Aug. 29.

On Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m., music can be heard wafting through the center of Windsor from the Windsor Town Green on Broad Street. Dinner at the center takes place beforehand. Chill Out & Knit: New members of all ages and experience are welcome to drop in and join this group of knitters in the Community Room. Knitters will guide one another with creative new projects or tinkering with an old one. No registration required.

Caregiver Support Group/Healing Hearts: Prosser Public Library program at Marilyn Michaelson Senior Center, 330 Park Ave., Bloomfield.
