Blue Plate Kitchen, a West Hartford “modern comfort fare” restaurant in the town’s Bishops Corner retail area, will close permanently on Aug. 30. Owners Jay DuMond and Lisa Cole said they made the decision to close because of the effects of COVID-19 and related restrictions on dining.

The restaurant will be open through that date, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner with seasonal specials and cocktails, and expanded patio seating. Gift cards will be honored through August.

DuMond, a longtime area restaurateur who also owns and operates City Steam Brewery Cafe, opened Blue Plate Kitchen in January 2014. At the time, he saw the opportunity for affordability and variety, with options available at every meal and a full bar with specialty cocktails.

City Steam, which has remained closed in downtown Hartford throughout the pandemic, will reopen Sept. 14, serving dinner seven nights a week, DuMond said in an email last week. Its new menu will feature pizzas and items from a gas-fired rotisserie.

“We have been brewing and marketing our 6 craft 16-oz cans and our flagship Naughty Nurse bottle since the restaurant shut down,” he wrote. “Once social distancing becomes less of a problem, we will reopen the Brew Ha Ha Comedy Club — a 35 year Hartford institution and continue on with live entertainment, weddings, banquets, etc.”

Blue Plate Kitchen is at 345 N. Main St. in West Hartford. 860-906-1873 and bpkwesthartford.com.
