Chase customers in Hartford will soon be able to do their banking at the downtown corner of Trumbull and Pearl.

The city’s first branch of national banking giant JPMorgan Chase plans to open for business in September. Before the unveiling of Chase’s downtown location, the bank’s closest branches for Hartford residents were in New Haven and south of Waterbury. The bank is moving into a space formerly occupied by Bank of America.

Chase has begun construction in the corner location marked by a sign reading “NEW BRANCH COMING SOON.”

The expansion into Hartford is part of a plan Chase announced earlier this year to open 90 branches in “new markets” and to hire up to 700 employees before the end of 2019.

“This expansion marks a major milestone for our firm by allowing us to serve more customers, small businesses and communities across the country,” said Thasunda Duckett, CEO of Chase Consumer Banking.

Nationally, JPMorgan Chase had a strong start to this fiscal year. The company reported a 5.36 percent earnings increase from the same period last year, pulling in $9.18 billion in profit through March 31.

Chase bank is headquartered in Manhattan and operates around 5,000 branches in the country. The bank currently has 49 branches and ATMs in Connecticut.
