A community day at Dillon Stadium postponed from Wednesday will take place Thursday afternoon.

The community event is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and will feature free food, school supplies giveaways, music, on-field games and information about local youth programs. It is sponsored by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and the city of Hartford.

The event is open to all ages but minors must be accompanied by an adult. Parking is free and the city is offering shuttles to and from Milner Middle School, Sarah J. Rawson Elementary School and the Free Center at the former Goodwin Library. More information on shuttles is available on the Hartford Foundation’s website.

There will be on-field activities for young people ages 5-to-17. Sneakers are required to participate.

“The celebration is an example of the broad community use that’s envisioned for the venue as a result of an agreement the Hartford Foundation made in return for its commitment of $1.2 million for the turf field,” the Hartford Foundation said in a press release about Thursday’s event.

“The Foundation committed the funds to ensure Dillon Stadium is available to everyone in the community including schools, neighborhood organizations, youth sports leagues and area nonprofits that serve local residents.”
