West Hartford will make way for families riding bikes, pushing strollers and steering scooters during a free festival on Sunday morning.

The fourth annual Center Streets block party returns to West Hartford Center this weekend, providing a “care-free and car-free summer morning” for anyone who wants to take a stroll or pedal through town.

No cars will be allowed on Farmington Avenue, South Main Street, Memorial Road Extension, and LaSalle Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Restaurants will serve brunch specials and shops in the area will be open for business and offering discounts.

“Children will be able to ride bikes and scooters, play hula-hoop, jump rope, and draw with chalk in streets closed to traffic,” organizers said in a press release.

Bands will perform outside during the four-hour festival, which is being sponsored by local businesses and residents.

One of this year’s major sponsors, Autism Services and Resources Connecticut, hopes to make Sunday’s event accessible for children on the autism spectrum.

Center Streets hits its fourth year this weekend, and is expected to draw more than 2,000 people to the area. It’s a free event organized by Bike West Hartford, Inc., which advocates for biking initiatives in town.
