Arthur Hourihan passed away on April 22, 2019 at the age of 86 years.He was born November 2, 1932 in Hartford, Connecticut, son of the late Arthur and Mary (Mulrain) Hourihan. He attended public schools in Hartford, Connecticut prior to attending and graduating from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Arthur served honorably in the United States Army from June 1956 through May 1958 with service in the Middle East, including Libya. He was a career employee of the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT). He rose through the employee ranks at the DOT and retired as the Director of Construction for the State of Connecticut transportation system.Arthur was an avid traveler, outdoorsman and fisherman, and spent many days traveling, camping and fishing with his family. He took great joy in visiting historical locations globally, and sharing his immense knowledge (and humor) with his friends and family. He was a master builder who, like his father, enjoyed building structures and tinkering with cars. Arthur was a devoted husband and father, and a friend to all. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Arline Everin Hourihan. They were married on May 14, 1960 at Saint Peter’s Church in Hartford, Connecticut. Arthur and Arline had five children – Arthur, Ann, James, Brian and David Hourihan. Arthur is survived by his wife and all his children, his daughter-in-laws – Elizabeth, Dianne and Kari, and his seven grandchildren – Conner, Madison, David, Erin, Liam, Adia and Rori Hourihan.Arthur is also survived by his brothers – Patrick and Michael Hourihan, and sisters – Mary Milewski and Louise Roberts, as well as his sister-in-laws – Arlene and Rita Hourihan and brother-in-law – Carl Milewski.A Mass of Christian Burial in Arthur’s honor will be celebrated on Friday, April 26, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 183 Church Street in Newington, CT. Burial will be held immediately following the Mass at West Meadow Cemetery, 679 Willard Avenue in Newington, CT.Family and friends are invited to the wake, which will be held at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT 06109 on both Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday, April 26, 2019 prior to the Mass from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. Memorial donations in memory of Arthur can be made to the Annunciation Parish in Newington, CT
