West Hartford’s elected leaders came to the state Capitol Wednesday to make a pitch for a Hartford Line train station in the Elmwood section of town.

“The station will be sited across from and connected to the Flatbush Avenue CTfastrak station, creating a true, multi-model transit hub,” said West Hartford Mayor Shari G. Cantor. “The funding and construction of the West Hartford Rail station is critical to our efforts to attract private investment and promote Transit Oriented Development in the New Park Avenue corridor. This mile long district is anchored by two CTfastrak stations, major retailers and a wide variety of businesses.”

Cantor and state Rep. Derek Slap spoke in support of a bill that funds commuter rail infrastructure.

“All you have to do is look at the transit-oriented development that is sprouting up around the New Park Avenue corridor. Once an industrial factory hub, the state and town have invested money in a new urbanist revival,” Slap said. “Elmwood is now home to a wildly successful brewery, while Hartford Baking Company, a local staple, has seen increased popularity since the advent of the “CTfastrak” system.”

The Hartford Line, which runs from New Haven to Springfield, is a commuter rail line that opened last year.
