State Rep. Tony D’Amelio of Waterbury will serve as honorary state chairman of President Trump’s 2020 reelection effort in Connecticut, the campaign announced Wednesday.

D’Amelio was the first sitting member of the Connecticut legislature to publicly endorse Trump in 2016.

Trump’s Connecticut team also includes Jeff Santopietro, brother of former Waterbury Mayor Joe Santopietro, and Elissa Voccola, who worked for several Connecticut Republican candidates, including Rob Simmons and Sam Caligiuri. Voccola also worked as executive director of the Connecticut Republican Party from 2013 to 2015.

In addition to working to reelect Trump, the team will help other Republican candidates, said Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager, and Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.

President Trump’s “successes can be felt nationwide and electing Republicans across Connecticut will help to ensure he can achieve more victories for the American people for many years to come,” Parscale and McDaniel said in a statement.
