PORTLAND, Maine — Ty Culbreth allowed one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings for the win as the Hartford Yard Goats moved to within a game of .500 with a 2-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game on Tuesday night.

Culbreth (3-1) was followed by four relievers who combined for 3 1/3 shutout innings, including Ben Bowden who closed things out for his fifth save.

Hartford (9-10) got on the board with a run in the second. Tyler Neven led with a single and advanced to third on a single by Vince Fernandez and an error by right fielder Tate Matheny. Nevin scored on a sacrifice fly by Alan Trejo.

The Yard Goats added to the lead in the third when Manuel Melendez led with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mylz Jones. Colton Welker then brought Melendez home with a single to center.

Fernandez and Melendez each had two hits for the Yard Goats, who conclude the trip with a game at Portland on Wednesday before returning home for a series against Harrisburg beginning on Thursday night.
