UConn has gotten in early on what figures to be a long recruiting battle for Bristol Central’s Donovan Clingan, who is going into his sophomore season.

“Beyond blessed and proud to say I have received a D1 scholarship [offer] from the University of Connecticut,” said Clingan, a 7-foot center, via his Twitter account Friday night. “I would like to thank Coach [Dan] Hurley and the UConn coaching staff for this opportunity.”

Clingan, who averaged 21 points and 18 rebounds during his freshman season with the Rams, received an offer from Syracuse, after participating in their elite camp in August.

It’s early, of course, for Class of 2022 recruits to be ranked or predicted, but with these two offers it’s fair to say Clingan will be drawing a lot of attention over the next three years. He plays for the Team Spartans AAU program based in Massachusetts.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime dream as a coach,” BC coach Tim Barrette told the Courant last season. “We are looking to build a state championship team around him.”

The Huskies got their first 2020 commit, guard Andre Jackson, on Wednesday. They are looking for a center, and are expected to have Dylan Cardwell, 6-11, from Georgia, who plays at Oak Hill in Virginia, visiting this weekend. Considered a three-star recruit, Cardwell has scheduled visits with Georgia and Vanderbilt.
