Funk yeah! What to know about Saturday's Louisville Funk Fest

OK, who's getting funked up this weekend?

Waterfront Park certainly is. The park by downtown is set to host the Louisville Funk Fest on Saturday, bringing to town some notable names in rap and R&B.

Here's a quick look at what to expect during the shows.

Who is performing?

If you've listened to a contemporary radio station in the past 15 years you probably know a few of these names, or at least can recognize a few of their hits.

Among the headliners: Jeezy (the artist formerly known as "Young Jeezy"), Tank, Brandy, Mystikal (if you think we won't be out there making a scene when he plays "Shake Ya Ass," think again), Musiq Soulchild and Jagged Edge. Ads for the show also say more artists will perform. No set times are listed, but all shows will take place Saturday.

What time should I get there?

The music is set to begin at 5 p.m., while gates will open at 3 p.m.

Where are the shows? And where should I park?

The Saturday performances will take place at Waterfront Park, which can be accessed from Witherspoon Street by Louisville Slugger Field. Parking along River Road heading toward downtown is free, as are the parking lots along River Road. Downtown parking meters are also free after 6 p.m., if you arrive late, and are free all day Sunday as well, if you leave your car.

How can I get tickets?

Tickets are available online through the event's website (click here to check out available packages). If you want to pick them up in person, they can also be found at Better Days Records (2600 W. General admission tickets, which don't come with a seat, are going for $45. On Wednesday there were still a few Gold VIP tickets available, which include a reserved chair at a table in front of the stage with bar and restroom access, for $125. Silver VIP tickets, which include a theater-style seat behind the VIP area, are available for $75.

What can I bring?

Lawn chairs are allowed for those who buy general admission tickets. Large clear plastic bags are also allowed, along with one-gallon plastic freezer bags and clutches. Backpacks, fanny packs, printed plastic bags, diaper bags and seat cushions are not allowed, along with outside food and drinks, coolers, grills, pets and golf umbrellas (smaller purse umbrellas and ponchos are allowed if it rains, which it might).
