Before President Donald Trump takes part in a private fundraiser for Gov. Matt Bevin's reelection campaign, he's speaking before a crowd of veterans.

Trump is appearing at the 2019 AMVETS convention, taking place at The Galt House in downtown Louisville.

The organization represents active duty and honorably discharged veterans from all branches of services and has more than 250,000 members, according to AMVETS' website.

AMVETS is nonpartisan and is led by volunteers.

The group, which originated in World War II, provides services to veterans, including guidance in filing claims for disability compensation with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

AMVETS, which was chartered by Congress in 1947, is recognized by the federal government as a 501(c)(19) organization. It is a tax-exempt nonprofit.

The group reported $8.5 million in assets in 2018, according to Guidestar.org.
