A new seafood restaurant from the owners of a popular next door barbecue joint opened this week in Crescent Hill.

Hooked on Frankfort, 3200 Frankfort Ave., began serving customers Tuesday two doors down from its sibling restaurant, Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot.

It's the second restaurant to open within a few blocks of Frankfort Avenue this month. The other, Burger Girl Diner, opened last week.

Hooked on Frankfort and the beer depot are both operated by Kim and David Alvey, who started FABD with his brother Robert 15 years ago.

Kim Alvey said the couple purchased the Hooked on Frankfort building about three years ago and has been using it for catering and storage. They decided to open a seafood restaurant there after noticing how well they sold fish sandwiches at their first concept.

"We decided there's not really a fish house around here," Alvey said, adding that the neighborhood has immediately embraced Hooked on Frankfort.

David and Robert Alvey grew up in nearby St. Matthews, attending Our Lady of Lourdes and Trinity High School. And Kim Alvey said the family has always had support of the growing area.

"So many people walk up with their families" to FABD and Hooked on Frankfort Avenue, Alvey said. "... We don't do advertising. Just from the balloons being out, people in the area come in."

Hooked on Frankfort hopes to lure new customers with its affordable prices for entrees like fish tacos, clams and frog legs. Orders start at $7.99 while plates with two sides start at $10.99.
