Good news for when you start traveling again — Southwest Airlines has announced a new nonstop flight from Louisville to Atlanta.

Just in time for Christmas, the direct flight from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will launch on Thursday, Dec. 17.

The flight will be available three times per day and will feature a Boeing 737 plane with between 143 and 175 seats, Louisville's airport announced on Thursday.

“This announcement by Southwest is a bright spot for Louisville and SDF,” Dan Mann, executive director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, said in a statement. “Thanks to the strong community support, Southwest has continued to invest in Louisville in recent years and the fact they are doing so in the midst of this worldwide crisis speaks to the strength of our market.”

Southwest now has 11 nonstop flights from Louisville. Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport has six airline choices and more than 30 nonstop flights.

“Recognizing the economic hit that the airline and travel industry faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited that Southwest is committing further to the Louisville market by introducing this new route to Atlanta,” Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said in a statement. “This route will give travelers flying out of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport another option as they travel to other destinations in December and beyond.”
