A TARC bus driver has tested positive for COVID-19, the Louisville transit agency announced Monday.

The driver operated his Route 28 bus from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 26 through May 29, and the Transit Authority of River City said it confirmed Monday the positive test result for the novel coronavirus.

Route 28 runs between Jefferson and 6th streets to Jefferson Boulevard along Preston Highway.

In a news release, TARC encouraged anyone who rode the Route 28 bus between May 26 and May 29 to monitor themselves for possible COVID-19 symptoms.

"If symptoms occur, isolate yourself and self-treat at home. If you become seriously ill, contact your healthcare provider," TARC's news release said. "If you experience a medical emergency, seek treatment as you would in any other medical emergency."

The transit agency announced in early April that one driver had tested positive for COVID-19 and had not reported any other cases among drivers until Monday.

TARC is continuing to limit passengers to "essential" trips, such as obtaining life-sustaining supplies or traveling to and from a job, during the coronavirus pandemic.

The agency also continues to require riders to wear face coverings while on board a bus and to exit through the rear doors.
