Kentucky wide receiver Zy'Aire Hughes suspended in advance of bowl

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky wide receiver Zy'Aire Hughes is suspended from all team activities in advance of the Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl, UK coach Mark Stoops announced Friday.

Hughes was arrested at an apartment on Woodland Ave. near UK's campus at 4:19 a.m. on Dec. 2 after officers were dispatched to the address. An arrest report obtained by the Courier Journal reports Hughes' "intentionally caused physical injury to his girlfriend," who had bruising and fresh scratches. 

Hughes was charged with fourth-degree assault dating violence, a misdemeanor.

Hughes played in seven games during the regular season for the 9-3 Wildcats, recording two touches for 63 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came on a 49-yard trick play against Murray State.

The Paducah native plead not guilty on Dec. 3. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 16.
