A man with suspected links to gang activity in Coventry has been arrested following the discovery of a loaded shotgun

The 26-year-old arrested at address in Bridgecote, Willenhall on Thursday, is also being held on suspicion of sexual activity with a child.

It is believed the arrested man was riding a motorbike which was involved in a crash on nearby St James Lane on July 25.

A police dog tracked a discarded helmet and loaded shotgun from the crash scene.

Officers from West Midlands Police then carried out a raid on the Bridgecote address last night (August 16).

The man remains in police custody for questioning.

Two other people were detained at the Bridgecote address but were later released without charge.

Coventry Police Superintendent Phil Healy, said: “We have an operation running that’s targeting people we believe have links to gang activity and violence in the city…people who run the risk of causing serious harm in our communities.

“This warrant was part of that wider work and represents a significant arrest.

“We all need to work together and stand up to violence in Coventry; we need to send a clear message to offenders that it won’t be tolerated.

“Anyone who suspects someone is linked to gang activity or carries weapons should contact us so that we can take action. We take information from the public very seriously and will always act on it to protect the public.”
