A man has died after being struck by a van in Coventry.

The emergency services were called to the junction of Allesley Old Road and Brookside Avenue on Monday, May 6 at 10.30am following reports of a collision.

Mobility scooter rider Mick Morrison was believed to have been crossing the road when the van collided with him.

At the time, it was believed that he suffered injuries which were not believed to have been serious.

Unfortunately, the 76-year-old's condition deteriorated and he died later that night.

It has been confirmed that the driver of the van, a 43-year-old man, remained at the scene and is fully co-operating with police enquiries.

West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the incident.

Tributes paid

Mick's wife has paid tribute to her husband. She said: "Mick was a wonderful and loving husband.

"Notwithstanding his problems with Parkinson’s disease, he had an enormous zest for life and believed in living life to the full which included flying to Las Vegas four or five times a year.

"His death has left an enormous void in our lives and he will be missed dreadfully as I have lost not only my husband but also my best friend."

Witness appeal

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I know from our enquiries that there were several witnesses at the traffic lights at the time of collision that we have not yet spoken to.

“I would like them to contact us and help us get answers for everyone involved.

"Specialist officers from our dedicated family liaison unit continue to support Mick’s family.”
