A man who sent threats via texts and voicemail messages is now behind bars.

Balbir Bains sent the messages, which threatened to cause "significant harm" to his victim, over a six-week period in August and September last year.

Magistrates were told that Bains, 57, of Edyth Road, Wyken, had pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment by threatening to cause harm via text and voicemail messages.

He was sent to prison for 12 weeks, as well as being handed a restraining order and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Other cases heard at Coventry Magistrates' Court between January 28 and February 1 included:

Peter Williams, 28, of St Michael's Road, Stoke, admitted causing £250 of damage to a sink at The Oak pub and taking a vehicle without consent. He was fined £274 and ordered to pay £250 compensation, £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Eldrad Matemadodo, 24, of Gun Lane, Stoke Heath, admitted driving while disqualified on the M69 and driving without insurance. He was banned from driving for a year, given 120 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Jade Wheatley, 25, of no fixed address, admitted stealing spirits worth £112 from Tesco, failing to provide a sample, failing to answer bail and failing to comply with requirements of a community order. She was handed a 13-week prison sentence suspended for a year and ordered to pay £112 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Adam Scott, 45, of Charter Avenue, Canley, admitted drink-driving (140 blood, limit 80), taking a vehicle without consent and damage was caused to street furniture, driving without insurance and without a licence. He was banned from driving for 18 months, given 60 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £300 compensation, £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Melissa Smith, 24, of Goodman Way, Tile Hill, admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop at scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, driving without a licence and driving without insurance. She was banned from driving for a year, fined £200 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge.

Kathleen Close, 49, of Station Street East, Foleshill, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour which was racially aggravated, using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour towards a police officer which was racially aggravated and failing to comply with requirements of a community order (assault x3). She was sent to prison for 12 weeks for original assault offences, fined £100 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge.
