A hugely popular music and snooker venue in Coventry has shut down - but "may re-open" in a month.

Arches Venue in Spon End post on Facebook on Tuesday night to say it would be closing immediately.

They thanked everyone who had played snooker or attended a gig there over the years.

Lots of tribute bands had played at the Arches, and special experience nights.

Upcoming shows have now been forced to cancel, with bosses at the venue saying in the post as many events as possible will be moved to an alternative.

Arches Venue closure announcement

The post said: "It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the closure of the Arches Venue Coventry, with immediate effect.

"Huge thanks to everyone who ever played snooker, pool or attended a live music event over the years, and to every single band that played.

"Massive apologies to those whose shows we are now forced to cancel.

"As many events as possible will be moved to an alternative venue."

However the post was edited later that night, saying: "The venue will be closed for at least one month, but may re-open in the future..."
