Coventry and Warwickshire are enjoying a rather pleasant summer day today, but that could be all set to change tomorrow.

Forecasters are predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms across the Midlands and Warwickshire Wednesday afternoon (August 14), and Coventry looks set to be in the firing line.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms , from 2pm to 10pm.

It comes after a warm and sunny Tuesday, on which temperatures are expected to be as high as 19C.

But the night turns cooler, and rain comes in the early hours of the morning.

From 9am until 3pm, Coventry can expect heavy rain - with temperatures of 15C.

The rain should turn a little lighter in the evening, with temperatures rising slightly .

It is a similar story across Warwickshire, with Nuneaton and Leamington expecting rain at roughly the same times.

Strangely, despite the warning for thunderstorms covering Coventry and Warwickshire, it doesn't actually appear as though any are currently forecast.

However, forecasts are liable to change which could explain the area's inclusion in the warning.

What is the weather warning?

The Met Office are warning of "heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause some flooding and transport disruption."

They have listed a number of possible effects of the thunderstorms, giving people the chance to prepare and to be aware.

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and possible road closures
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or hail
