Wintry showers could hit Coventry this afternoon as temperatures plummet.

The Weather Channel says there's a 50 per cent chance of snow or sleet from 5pm as the mercury dips to just 3C.

The forecasters' iPhone app then predicts sleet or snow will clear for a couple of hours with overnight rain showers set to start from 9pm.

If it does snow, it's probably going to be no more than a light dusting.

However other forecasters are not so certain about the snow.

The BBC says we can expect "light rain showers" from 4pm while the Met Office says the showers will be heavier.

All agree temperatures will struggle to get above 3C all evening.

It's all down to bitterly cold winds which are blowing in from continental Europe, which experts are referring to as a mini Beast from the East.

It means the unseasonably warm conditions we have seen throughout October and the beginning of November will come to an end.

Steven Keates, meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "It's going to be colder than what we've been used to, obviously, considering it's been balmy and mild as a whole.

"There's going to be a day by day cooling off, with each day getting cooler than the previous.
