A derelict site in Coventry is being earmarked for new flats.

An application has been submitted for the corner of Humber Road/Terry Road, in Lower Stoke, for 14 one, two and three-bedroom flats.

Although the scheme begins at 174 Humber Road, the applicant has said it includes retaining existing terraced houses at numbers 166-172 “due to practicalities of construction and different ownerships being involved”.

But one existing two-storey terrace at the back of Humber Road will be demolished.

The rest of the proposed scheme is on derelict land cut off from the streetscene by advertisement billboards.

“The development will improve the area with new housing and secure car parking and private gardens and amenity spaces,” planning documents submitted on behalf of the applicant said.

“The building is located in a prominent location on a roundabout on Humber Road but every effort has been taken to blend the building in with the existing area and with both existing and new housing developments.”

The design of the building is being modelled on the block of flats on the opposing corner of the roundabout.

Mirroring that model, the scale changes from two storeys on Terry Road to up to three storeys where access is required off Humber Road.

To the rear of the new building will be a small 15-space car park, 10 cycle spaces, private gardens and a small bin storage area.

An application was confirmed by Coventry City Council this month, with a decision expected in August.
