The cost of a pint has risen across the nation in recent years - but Coventry is still among the cheapest cities to buy a beverage.

According to the Office of National Statistics, the average cost of a pint of beer has risen 30 percent, from £2.81 to £3.57.

And Coventry has moved with the times, with the average price of a pint in the city £3.52 - according to figures from the finder website .

It will come as no surprise that the most expensive city in the UK for beer is the capital, with the average price in London an eye opening £5.18.

Other pricey places include Brighton, Cambridge and Bristol, with average prices of £4.53, £4,40, and £4.36 respectively.

On the other end of the scale, the cheapest average price is in Preston, with £3.06.

Narrowly missing out on top spot was Perth, just one pence more expensive than Preston.

Elsewhere in the Midlands, Birmingham is among the more expensive places to grab a drink, with the average price a touch under £4, at £3.94.

Globally, if you are looking to buy a beer on a budget, you may want to consider Maputo in Mozambique. It is a fair distance away, but the average price of a beer here is £0.39.

Other cheap cities include Caracas in Venezuela, Juba in South Sudan, and Pyongyang in North Korea - where a pint will set you back £0.70 on average.

Doha in Qatar is the most expensive place to buy a beer, with an average price which makes London look cheap - £10.30.
