Coventry City Council has more than 50 jobs up for grabs right now - could one of them be the one for you?

The council continues to be one of the city’s biggest employers and is continually recruiting.

It also has a huge spectrum of roles, from teaching to social work and management to engineering and construction.

The city council currently has 46 jobs advertised on its website, though some are for multiple roles.

Many of the roles are based at the council's offices at One Friargate.

Here are just some of the jobs the council is currently advertising.

Principal building control officer

Six month temporary post

Salary: £31,371-£37,849 per annum

The council has a vacancy for a temporary qualified principal building control surveyor.

The building control team is responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive service across a range of diverse, technically challenging projects.

The person appointed will help drive forward the vision for the service by supporting and fostering relationships with both new and existing customers. 

They will need to demonstrate the necessary technical and people skills necessary to maintain and grow client confidence. 

Applicants will need to possess a robust technical knowledge supported by relevant site experience of both the building regulations and allied legislation.

Degree level qualification in a construction related discipline together with appropriate membership of a recognised professional body either CABE, CIOB or RICS.

Building control officer

Salary: £26,317-£32,029 per annum

This is a similar role to that of principal building control officer (above) but a permanent role.

The building control team is responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive service across a range of diverse, technically challenging projects.

The person appointed will help drive forward the vision for the service by supporting and fostering relationships with both new and existing customers. 

They will need to demonstrate the necessary technical and people skills necessary to maintain and grow client confidence. 

What’s required

Applicants will need to possess a robust technical knowledge supported by relevant site experience of both the building regulations and allied legislation. They will also need a valid driving licence.

School business manager - Baginton Fields School

Salary: £31,371-£37,849 per annum pro rata dependent on hours and weeks worked

Baginton Fields School provides for students with a broad range of special educational needs. The school has recently undergone expansion.

The school business manager is a key member of the senior leadership team who works to ensure the provision of efficient and effective support services throughout the school taking a lead in the strategic planning, organisation and delivery of financial and budgetary management, human resources, health and safety, site and administration management.

The successful applicant must have excellent communication and leadership skills and be able to liaise effectively with all stakeholders associated with the school.

Short breaks support workers

Casual

Salary: £18,426-£19,554 per annum

Coventry Children’s Services are currently recruiting short breaks support workers, to join their dedicated Community Short Breaks Team.

They are looking for candidates who are passionate about working with children and young people.

This role is on a casual basis to provide cover at evenings, weekends and during holiday periods and involves working at city wide locations.

Occupational therapy team leader

Salary: £36,876-£43,662 per annum

The city council is looking for a highly motivated, HCPC registered occupational therapy team leader who can improve the safety, independence and quality of life for people with physical, mental and learning disabilities and to allow them to remain living in their chosen home environment.

What’s required

Effective communication skills

Combining conducting assessments for complex caseload whilst managing a team.

Providing instruction to clients and their carers to enable them to achieve maximum functional independence.

Developing effective working relationships with customers, colleagues and other agencies.

Candidates will have specialist knowledge of rehabilitation and general knowledge of adult conditions and multi-pathology.

Interpreting and analysing

Interpreting and analysing clinical and non-clinical data to form an accurate picture of the customers’ functional ability.

Devising comprehensive intervention plans, using clinical reasoning and utilising evidence-based practice to deliver enablement programmes.

Guiding and monitoring both qualified and unqualified staff in the delivery of enablement and intervention plans.

Registration with the HCPC and a clear DBS are essential to this role.

Occupational health apprentice

Apprenticeship

Salary: £7,524.21 per annum

An efficient and capable person with the willingness and enthusiasm to learn and work alongside an experienced team in a busy office environment, helping to provide a confidential clerical/administrative support service to the occupational health, safety and counselling teams.

Duties include providing a reception and telephone service, maintaining information systems and general office duties.

Effective communication skills, the ability to maintain confidential information, organisational ability, keyboard skills, ability to work to deadlines, literacy and numeracy skills and ability to operate a range of office equipment.

Finance systems analyst

Salary: £31,371-£37,849 per annum

With increasing commercial focus alongside stretched resources there are constant demands on the financial systems team to review processes and adapt the financial system and reports to meet the needs of the council.

There is an upgrade to Agresso due imminently and a long future developments list.

The council is looking to recruit a finance systems analyst to support this work.

What’s required

Confidence working with financial information and reports.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work with large amounts of data to produce meaningful outputs.

Experience of working with multiple ICT systems, particularly finance systems.

Casual cleaners

Salary: £17,364-£17,711 per annum pro rata to hours worked

Four roles are available in a small and friendly team responsible for the cleaning of all council buildings and private contracts across the city.

The work can range from standard office cleaning to whole house clearances and cleans.

Members of the casual team will be given priority to permanent vacancies when they arise.

A hospital cleaner thoroughly disinfects a public toilet to help cut the risk of winter vomiting bug norovirus.

What’s required

A great knowledge of all cleaning practises, along with health and safety principles.

A strong stomach as some of the work we carry out is very challenging and unpleasant.

Pupil inclusion officer

Temporary

Salary: £19,171-£22,462 per annum

An opportunity has arisen for a temporary pupil inclusion officer within the Education Inclusion & Attendance Team until March 31 2020.

Based in the People Directorate and reporting to the inclusion and attendance manager, the person appointed will also be responsible for maintaining effective monitoring, processing and information for school attendance, exclusion and supported transfers.

Care liaison officer

This is a new role in Coventry and an enthusiastic, self motivated and confident person is sought to fill it.

If you are interested in leading on this exciting project of a creating a new service and you have social care, hospital or health care experience this could be the job for you. 

The person appointed will form part of a national network of individuals with similar roles.  Their focus will be to help people return to their care home smoothly and safely following a hospital visit.

Hospital ward

The care liaison officer will develop strong positive working relationships and trust with managers of care homes and housing with care establishments in Coventry as well as hospital staff. 

They will receive support from the team in adult social care and form part of a national network of care liaison officers.

Castle Wood, a special school for children aged 3 to 11, is looking for a senior classroom support staff member who is dynamic and enthusiastic.
