After weeks of seeing household and garden waste build up, Coventry's tip is open again.

As we reported in our  Coventry newsletter, the tip was previously closed over fears social distancing rules could not be maintained at the site.

Now, you can go - but you have to follow the rules.

Coventry's Reuse and Recycling Centre, on London Road, has opened again for those who book ahead online.

The system appears to have been going well, with none of the three-hour queues people are experiencing in other cities.

So if you have something to dump, you can book here.

You can get your Coventry news straight to your email inbox - and it's FREE!

All you need to do is sign up here.

The emails come out twice a day with the latest news and what's on stories from across Coventry.

To make an appointment, you need:

  • Your full address, including postcode
  • Details of the waste you are bringing to the site
  • The vehicle registration number.

However, there are a few dos and don'ts:

1. No vans or cars with trailers are permitted

It is to maximise space and minimise the amount of time spent on site - but is only a temporary measure.

2. Only one person can get out of the car

This is in order to adhere to government guidelines on social distancing.

3. Stay six feet away from others

Site users will be required to follow the signage and markings around the site and maintain a safe distance.

4. Don't ask staff for help unloading

Although site staff will be available to offer advice and guidance, they will not be able to help unload your vehicle so only bring items that you can safely unload yourself.

5. No abuse

The tip operates a zero-tolerance policy on aggression or abuse towards site staff or other site users. Such behaviour will result in removal from the site.

6. Proof of residence is required

You have to show your proof of residency by holding it up on the inside of your closed window when requested. Anyone unable to provide this information will not be permitted access to the site.

You will be given a reference number which you will have to give when you arrive at the Household Recycling and Reuse Centre.

7. You can't bring other people's waste

If waste is not from your address, you can't bring it without bringing the person that it belongs to.

8. Only for Coventrians

The tip is only for residents of Coventry to dispose of their waste. Those from neighbouring councils should use their own facilities.
