A 17-year-old accused of murdering another teenager in Hinckley has appeared in court.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with murdering Joshua Taylor who was stabbed on Monday (October 7).

Emergency services were called to Sword Drive in Hinckley at about 12.55am and Joshua, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police confirmed yesterday that a post-mortem examination had established that Joshua had died from a single stab wound, report our colleagues at LeicestershireLive.

The 17-year-old suspect appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court this morning (Wednesday) dressed in a grey sweatshirt and dark trousers. His grandfather was allowed to sit in a chair by the dock to offer support.

Sally Bedford, of the Crown Prosecution Service, gave a brief outline of the prosecution's case and circumstances of the fatal stabbing.

The youth, who is also charged with possession of a knife in a public space, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address - and to indicate that he understood the nature of the charges against him.

No plea was entered.

Magistrates granted an application from his solicitor Chris Black for a Section 45 order preventing the publication of either his name or details that would lead to his identification due to his legal status as a child.

They told the defendant that the charges against him were so serious that the case could only be dealt with by a crown court judge.

The court was told that the youth will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am.

He was remanded back into custody to a youth detention service prison as there were no suitable places available in secure local authority care.
