Mark Robins has insisted that his Coventry City side are well-equipped to cope with the demands of a congested fixture list as they prepare to face Gillingham at St Andrew’s.

Saturday’s encounter with the Gills will be Coventry’s fourth match in 11 days and after the team’s exertions in Tuesday night’s 3-3 thriller against Portsmouth, elements of fatigue are a concern for a young Sky Blues outfit.

The dismissals of Fankaty Dabo and Gervane Kastaneer in midweek leaves little room for manoeuvre in the City side, with the team having no recognised right-back available for tomorrow’s clash.

However Robins was upbeat about his side's condition, and believes the flurry of fixtures can be more beneficial than detrimental.

“I think we’ll be ok," he said. "We’ve got to deal with it; it’s the rigours of 24 team, well hopefully 24 team leagues.

“We’re in the middle of a busy spell, but then it’s something that you want to have because then we can hopefully get up to speed quickly.

“Clearly we’ve got two less players for tomorrow, but that will be done after tomorrow and we can get them back for Tuesday night and then we can kick on.

“Hopefully we get some of the injuries back soon as well, and then it looks a lot brighter and a lot healthier."

Injuries have always been a reoccurring nightmare for the Sky Blues, and the City boss is hoping that the rest of his side remain unscathed in the coming weeks.

“We’ve picked up some needless suspensions but also some really significant injuries, certainly with Josh Pask’s last week," added Robins.

“And again, it was innocuous. Something on the training ground that has resulted in him having an operation and he’ll be out for 12 weeks.

“It’s those things that you would just like to avoid, that the players would like to avoid clearly and Josh in particular but we have to deal with it.

“Still lots to do, and again early days but the amount of games we have played and will have played by the end of the month is something that we want to do but also is a challenge.”
