Coventry City have joined a long list of clubs interested in Northampton Town defender Aaron Pierre.

Reports yesterday claimed that Shrewsbury Town have made a bid for the defender who was named the Cobblers’ player of the season.

But it’s understood that a host of others remain interested.

Pierre top-performed for the Shrews, chipping in with eight goals in 45 appearances across the season.

And the 26-year-old Grenada international has also attracted interest from the Championship.

Pierre has one year left on his contract but could be set for a summer move if the right price is agreed.

Coventry would like to strengthen their backline and will also check out other targets.

Playmaker linked

Coventry City have been linked with a free transfer move for Plymouth Argyle playmaker Graham Carey.

The 29-year-old Irishman is out of contract this summer, although he has been offered fresh terms by managerless Pilgrims following their relegation to League Two.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins would ideally like to secure the services of second half of the season sensation Bright Enobakhare from Wolves next season to play in that role.

Carey, who joined the club in the summer of 2015 from Ross County, has not been at his best this season reports PlymouthLive , but remains a firm fans’ favourite having scored 49 goals in 197 appearances for the club.

Carey started his career north of the border at Glasgow Celtic, but he left Parkhead after loan stints at St Mirren and Huddersfield Town.

He joined St Mirren permanently in July 2011 and spent two years at the club, making 68 appearances and scoring five goals.
