What to expect

Coventry City face West Midlands rivals Walsall at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday looking to compound the Saddlers’ woes and build on their own much-needed victory.

Mark Robins’ men made a Spot of history last time out, with the 1-0 victory over Rochdale their first ever win at Spotland.

A second half goal from Jordy Hiwula was enough to secure the Sky Blues’ first triumph in six attempts and lifted the mood at the club.

However, all attention is focused on Saturday now and what could be a similarly historic day for the visitors.

Opta have crunched the numbers to come up with these pointers.

Desperate times

Walsall goalkeeper Liam Roberts admits the Saddlers arrive at the Ricoh Arena this weekend in dire need of ‘grinding out a result’.

The League One strugglers fell to a chilling 1-0 home defeat to bottom club AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday meaning they are now less than three points above the drop zone.

Coventry City could send them into the bottom four in combination with other results but Dean Keates’ men know they must dig deep after just one win in their last 11 league matches.

“I know all the players still believe,” the Roberts said.

“The Wimbledon result was a body blow. It hurt, it really hurt. It is about staying together now. It’s not about individuals, it’s about the entire team.

“It’s about everyone now focusing on us getting a positive result at the weekend.

“We now have to grind out a result and have the togetherness to get through this rough patch.

“If the whole club stays together, things will change and we will start getting results again.”

And the 24-year-old insisted the visitors can’t afford to get distracted by their troublesome position.

Anticipation

Coventry City won for the first time six games last time out, perfect timing for this weekend’s clash with Walsall.

The Banks’s Stadium outfit have struggled massively in recent weeks and have become embroiled in a relegation scrap.

However, they have played the Sky Blues twice this season and won both. They will be desperate to make it a hat-trick at the Ricoh on Saturday.

We asked Coventry fans what they expect to happen.

Contract update

Jordan Willis has revealed that he’s had talks with Coventry City boss Mark Robins about his contract situation at the club.

The Sky Blues star will be a free agent come the summer, able to leave his home town side and attempt to further his career at a higher placed club if he wishes.

Robins revealed recently that there was interested in the centre-half on transfer deadline day.

League One leaders Luton Town and Championship Bristol City are understood to be admirers of the 24-year-old defender.

Robins , however, said two weeks ago that he hoped to sit down and discuss the defender’s future beyond the end of the season.
