Matty's plan

Matt Godden insists that there is more to come from him after the striker opened up his Sky Blues account in Coventry City’s 4-1 win over Exeter City in the Carabao Cup.

Godden proved to be a constant menace for the Exeter backline and was rewarded for his hard-work when he notched in his first goal with a sublime header to double City’s advantage.

After joining from Peterborough United last week, the 28-year-old hopes that he can add another dimension to City’s attacking play.

Bring them on

Coventry City progressed to the second round of the Carabao Cup with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Exeter City – and fans are feeling confident.

The Sky Blues’ class shone through against an inferior Exeter side as a brace from Jordy Hiwula, Matt Godden’s first City goal and a late finish from Amadou Bakayoko ensured that Mark Robins’ side eased through in comfortable fashion.

That set up a second round tie against Premier League Watford, pencilled in for later this month.

Here’s what fans had to say after the win at St Andrew’s.

The big talking points

For just the second time in six years, Coventry City have advanced beyond the first-round stage of the League Cup.

City’s 3-2 win over Portsmouth in August 2016 was the last time the Sky Blues tasted victory in the competition and now Mark Robins’ side have the opportunity to test themselves against established Premier League opposition in the shape of Watford.

Whilst many would argue that City’s main objectives are focused on the league, a run in the cup would provide a great source of revenue and last night’s success looked to have injected a fresh sprinkling of confidence and energy into the team.

The visit to Watford will see Brandon Mason look to get one over his former club and will also provide a young Sky Blues outfit the opportunity to display their true abilities on the big stage.
