In-form striker David Bremang took his impressive tally to six goals in his last seven games this week as Coventry City Under-23s toppled professional development league leaders Ipswich Town at the Ricoh Arena.
But just how close is the powerful centre-forward to Mark Robins’s first team?
Having signed for the Sky Blues from the London-based Conquest Academy, which develops players to join professional academies and clubs, the 18-year-old is what City’s development coach Jason Farndon describes as bit of a “slow burner.”
He certainly took time to settle in to the Under-23s set-up at Coventry but has clearly found his shooting boots and a stack of confidence to start rattling in the goals.
His latest, against the Tractor Boys, came from an impressive move when he timed his run to perfection to get into the box to stab home a superb early cross from marauding right-back Jak Hickman.
Asked how Bremang is progressing and how soon fans are likely to see him in the first team, Farndon said: “David is a big, powerful boy who is learning the game and he gives you a chance.
"But he's going to be a development player and I can’t see him pushing too much too soon.
“He’s come from Conquest Academy in the middle of London that do produce players. He started as a left winger but we are converting him into a centre-forward.
“He had a bit of a slow start but he’s now finding his feet.
“He’s a really quiet boy but one of those who has a real physical presence but wasn’t able to use it, or didn’t know how to use it, but he has started to do that now.
“He still gets lots of things wrong but the difference between playing Under-23s football in the first few months is huge.
“He’s never been at a club Academy so he’s really a slow burner.
“He’s been getting goals but still needs to work.”
The teenager said: “I’ve started to settle down and I’m enjoying it now.
“When I started it was a bit different to where I’m from and I’ve had to get used to it, and now I’m starting to like it a lot.
“I’m still getting used to the way of playing and I have to do more things to improve for myself and then to help the team going forward.
“It feels good to have got a few goals recently because I don’t think I started off too well when I joined.
“But now I’ve got the first few, I’ve started to score more and hopefully I can continue this from now on.
“It’s helped me boost my confidence knowing that I can come into the game and my mindset is right and I can help the team try and win.”
Speaking to the club’s website, Bremang added: “The target is to keep scoring, keep assisting and hopefully I will get my chance in the first team at some point.”
