Jones doesn't agree...

Coventry City boss Mark Robins and Luton Town manager Nathan Jones were at odds over a moment of controversy at the Ricoh Arena.

Jones took issue with his opposite number’s claims that the ball had clearly crossed the line when Coventry were denied a first half lead in a match the Hatters went on to win 2-1.

Robins was adamant that Jordy Hiwula had a perfectly good goal disallowed at the far post when Luton goalkeeper James Shea made a save.

He maintained video replays clearly showed the goalkeeper was a yard over his line when he collected the ball in his lap.

“The first half we had a goal not given," said Robins. “It was over the line by a yard.

“I have seen it on the video. Their keeper has fallen in the back of the goal and the ball is in is lap, and his lap is over the line by a yard, so to my knowledge that’s a goal.

“So we can look at that and think we were a little bit unlucky today. But we weren’t really unlucky, we were beaten by the better team.”

Five talking points

Coventry City suffered another disappointing defeat at the hands of fellow promoted club Luton Town at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

James Collins and Matty Pearson gave the visitors an unassailable lead, meaning Jonson Clarke-Harris' late penalty was little more than a consolation.

Here are the talking points from the afternoon from our writer, Andy Turner:

Robins on fans' criticism

“Umm, I’d agree with them but out of 46 league games you don’t get 46 brilliant games.

“I think the conditions were terrible today and I think that contributed to many people’s feelings.

“You look at Luton and they are second in the league. They weren’t brilliant today although they are a good side and you can see that.

“We weren’t at our fluent best.

“There aren’t too many plus points but there aren’t too many negatives either. We just have to stay on an even keel, not get too carried away and we will get it right.”
