Stuart Beavon has made a permanent move to non-league football after joining Nuneaton Borough following his release by Coventry City.

The 35-year-old striker did not figure in manager Mark Robins ’s plans and spent the entire last season on loan at National League Wrexham, seeing out the final year of his two and a half year contract, having been signed by former boss Russell Slade in January 2017.

Beavon made 28 league appearances for the Sky Blues after his arrival from Burton Albion but managed just two goals (three in all competitions).

But having played over 300 matches in the football league, the hard-working front man brings a wealth of experience to Jimmy Ginnelly’s new look Boro squad at Liberty Way.

Stuart Beavon has signed for Jimmy Ginelly's Nuneaton Borough

“I’ve been looking to add another top-notch centre forward” said Boro boss Ginelly, speaking to the club’s website.

“I want a squad capable of competing towards the top of the table and Stuart gets us much closer to that.

“He’s just what I’ve been looking for to strengthen my team, his experience will be invaluable in the changing room and out there on the pitch.

“He works tirelessly for his team and I’m sure he’ll pop up with quite a few goals as he has done throughout his career.”

Beavon said: “After speaking to Jimmy I knew this was the right move for me.

“I know about all of the problems from last season and about all of the work that’s been done to get the club back on the right track. I want to be part of that, it’s a big club and, along with the squad that’s already here, I think I can help get the Boro’ back up.”

Coventry City's Stuart Beavon has a shot at the Cambridge United goal

The Reading-born striker came up through non-league football with Ardley United, AFC Wallingford, Didcot Town and Weymouth, scoring 24 league goals for the Terras in just 86 appearances, earning him a move to Wycombe Wanderers.

In five seasons at Adams Park Beavon made 125 appearances, finding the back of the net 34 times. Further Football League spells followed with Preston North End and Burton Albion before a move to the Ricoh Arena.

Beavon scored on his debut for the Sky Blues and it was his semi-final goal that sent Coventry to Wembley for the 2017 Football League Trophy final.

With first team opportunities limited at the Ricoh, Beavon spent the entirety of last season on loan to Wrexham, making 39 appearances in the National League as the Red Dragons finished fourth, losing in the play-off quarterfinals.
