Warwickshire have selected players from eight clubs ahead of Saturday's local derby with Leicestershire at Nuneaton RFC.

Five Rugby Lions players have been called up by head coach Tom Greevy while Nuneaton, Newbold and Barkers Butts all have four players each represented in the squad for the Liberty Way clash.

The Red and Whites kicked off their 2019 Bill Beaumont Championship Division 2 campaign with a 42-27 defeat away against an East Midlands side boasting 15 National League players in their squad.

Opponents Leicestershire, who received a walkover victory on the opening weekend after Staffordshire failed to raise a side, have a star-studded squad pulling players from National League clubs Hinckley, South Leicester, Leicester Lions, Birmingham and Solihull as well as level six club Rugby Lions.

They have experienced county campaigners Alex Salt and Luke Coltman in their pack while fellow Hinckley player, Joe Wilson, plays against his home county on the ground of his former club, Nuneaton.

Warwickshire head coach Tom Greevy said: "Leicestershire should be quite interesting, I know the forwards coach over there and Joe Wilson is down to play in their squad, he's previously played for Warwickshire. There's a bit of a rivalry, because it's a bit more of a local derby than the other games for us guys. Especially for the guys at Nuneaton too. It should be interesting.

"They've got three National League clubs to pull from; Hinckley, South Leicester, Leicester Lions and Loughborough Students coming down into their catchment area as well. That's the problem with county, we have no National level clubs other than Birmingham and Solihull who are now back to the Midlands Premier, level five, you've got none of those clubs to tap into.

"It's always going to be a bit difficult but the lads will step up and there's lads we've got who can play a higher level but for quite valid reasons they want to play with their mates and enjoy it, they don't want to travel, work commitments, things like that and stay local.

"This is the best part about Warwickshire, you can play with your mates, play to a higher standard, the quality comes out, the cream rises to the top."
