Class of 2020 three-star wide receiver Trevon West has verbally committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. The Arlington (TX) Lamar product chose OU over offers from Illinois, Minnesota, Texas Tech and others.

Standing at 6’0”, his 165-lb. frame should be able to pack on quite a bit of mass by the time he’s fully immersed in a collegiate weight program. As far as how he performs on the field, he uses his 4.4 speed to burn DBs down the sideline, and in the slot he has a knack for creating space and getting himself open. As you can imagine, he’s also a threat as a kick and punt returner. Although West is not the most physical receiver, he isn’t afraid of contact (think 2016 Biletnikoff winner Dede Westbrook). For his junior season, West recorded 44 receptions for 981 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Given how the Sooners have recruited the receiver position as of late, West’s three-star rating doesn’t immediately jump off the page. However, it’s still quite early in the 2020 recruiting cycle, and with more opportunities at offseason camps and a senior season still to play, he’ll have plenty of chances to impact his stock.

Where the receiver position currently stands in this class is a bit tricky, as four-star commit Davon Graham could play either offense or defense at the collegiate level. Because of this, it’s not terribly difficult to see OU taking on one more WR in this class.

West joins RB Jase McClellan, ATH Drew Sanders, CB Darion Green-Warren, CB Jalen Huff, JUCO WR Kundarrius Taylor and the aforementioned Graham in a class that currently sits in the top 10 of the 247Composite Rankings.
