A MAN who carried a knife near a Cumbrian town centre has been jailed for six months.
Lee Jefferson, 42, was arrested by police at Coach Road in Whitehaven, at around 8pm on February 26, in relation to a different matter.
Prosecutor Jeremy Grout-Smith told Carlisle Crown Court this morning (MON): “On being searched in custody a locking knife was found in his property.”
Jefferson, previously of Whitehaven but now of no fixed address, admitted having a bladed article in public without good reason or lawful authority.
The court heard he had two previous convictions on his record for the carrying of blades.
As a result, his latest crime triggered a minimum prison sentence for repeat offending.
Noting also that Jefferson had a “bad record” featuring more than 150 offences in total, Judge James Adkin imposed an immediate six-month prison sentence. He also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the knife carried in February.
