A historic pub overlooking Whitehaven Marina has gone on the market – offering potential for a new lease of life.
The three-storey Georgian building, home of the Waterfront pub, formerly known as the Royal Standard Hotel, is for sale with licensed property specialists James A Baker.
The venue overlooks the marina in Whitehaven, on the Cumbrian coast, that grew to become a busy port in the 18th Century. The pub has a long history of catering to drinkers and diners and used to hold a mariners’ license to cater to shipmen who arrived with the tide at all times of the day and night.
It has had a number of tenants / occupiers in recent years and as well as offering food and drink, the Waterfront has held live-music events. The premises offer well-furnished interiors – with a main bar area, snug, restaurant, commercial kitchen, and extensive private accommodation upstairs.
Matt Whiteley, associate director of the Leeds branch of James A Baker, said the property is in a great location close to the Lake District National Park, and offers great scope for the right buyer.
“It is a well-furnished premises and benefits from fabulous, picturesque coastal views. There is real scope here for local or regional public house operators and restauranteurs to increase trade with outside dining potential.”
The property has potential for a range of uses subject to the granting of relevant permissions.
