Start your festive celebrations on a high note at Penrith Singers’ Christmas Concert, ‘Gloria’, which takes place in St Andrew’s Church, Penrith on Saturday 7th December 2019 at 7.30pm.
In the first half of the programme the choir will perform Dvořák’s ‘Mass in D Major’, a delightful work combining memorable melodies and rich harmonies. After the interval, the Singers will present a beautiful selection of carols – some in traditional settings and others more contemporary.
Penrith Singers’ musical director, Edward Taylor, is conducting the concert and the director of music at Carlisle Cathedral, Mark Duthie, is the organist.
The choir has around 70 members and performs two concerts each year, accompanied by an organist and/or other instrumental players. The repertoire spans many centuries and includes major choral works such as Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ and Mendelssohn’s ‘Elijah’, performed with professional soloists. Members and audiences are drawn from a wide radius and earlier this year the choir celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special concert of its ‘greatest hits’.
Penrith Singers warmly welcome you to St Andrew’s on 7th December. They also have other festive performances coming up this year:
– Carol singing in Penrith, in aid of Eden Valley Friends of Dementia UK, on Saturday 14th December (at Booths from 10.30am and in Angel Square from around 11.15am).
– Christmas Carol Service at St Andrew’s Church, alongside the church choir, on Sunday 22nd December (Penrith Singers’ carols at 6pm, service from 6.30pm).
