NEW research has revealed that Southampton is the second best place in the UK to live for retired people.
The study by Profile Pensions looked at the number of sports clubs, activities, pubs and cafes, parks and churches.
The organisation also took into account the average house prices, average cost of retirement home and crime rate.
Following the study it then came up with the top retirement locations, and the city beat the bustling capital of London in the results.
That was found to be the worst place to retire.
Coming close to Plymouth, which was found to be the best place for retirees to spend their non-working lives, Southampton’s high number of cinemas and pubs made up for its lack of bingo halls compared to other major cities.
With the city’s average house price of £208,160 and average retirement home price of £150,000, their costs are slightly more expensive than Plymouth but still beats Nottingham, Cardiff and Derby as a retirement location.
A representative from Profile Pensions said: “Retirement is a chance to really take care of yourself after years of work, and enjoy your family, pension, and life.
“We’ve created this study so existing pensioners and those coming up to pension age can choose somewhere to live that really suits their needs and their tastes – whether that’s places to go with friends and family like the cinema or a café, or somewhere to find some peace and quiet, like the golf course.”
